ANNUAL BIRD COUNTS
Annual Bird Counts
Every year the Cortes Island Museum & Archives Society sponsors a Christmas Bird Count and a Spring Migration Birding Event.
The Christmas Bird Count is more detailed than the Spring Bird Count, and involves an actual count of the number of birds in each species observed. The CBC is always conducted between mid-December and early January and is co-sponsored annually by the Cortes Island Museum and Bird Studies Canada with the results being recorded with the Audubon Society, the organization that started the CBC 108 years ago.
The Spring Birding Event is less elaborate and involves counting only the number of species observed.
