14th March 2006
Carol Trueman
Today, March 14th, the Robins arrived in our garden. I first noticed one up on the top of the big willow. It looked very large compared to the flock of Purple Finches that hang out up there when not squabbling on our bird feeder. I then saw about five Robins hopping around on the lawn. I look forward to hearing the Robin rain song.
Another first for Tiber Bay is the Turkey Vulture, seen the 12th of March. I noticed one wheeling over the Bay and now I have seen it daily.
Here’s a little ditty I wrote to celebrate their return a few years ago,
Island vultures are we,
flying from far across the sea
This where we like to be
on our island home
Nesting on those cliffs so bare,
no one knows our babes are there
Weather be foul, weather be fair,
on our island home
How we love it when those high winds blow
All the better to see the road kill down below
Winds blow high winds blow low
on our island home
