Does anyone else think that logging during the migratory bird nesting season is stupid and destructive? We've seen a fair bit of this spring logging over the last few years on private lands that are in the F1 zone. It seems that some new owners are in such a panic to recoup their investment, they don't slow down enough to study the land, pay attention to it's current wildlife inhabitants, or much else besides trees and logs. Is this responible forest stewardship?

Most migratory songbirds are small, build very small nests that are almost invisible from the ground. The nests are all theoretically protected by International Treaty and Canadian law. But there is no real enforcement, no ban on spring logging. There is no mention of this issue in the regulations for Private Managed Forest Land. Most low -elevation lands in the Georgia Basin and Southern Cortes are private. Therefore it seems like many migratory birds and their nests have no real protection at all. What can we do about this loophole, big enough to drive a logging truck through?
