The Cortes Island Museum & Archives wishes to acknowledge the immense contributions of May Ellingsen who recently passed away. The Museum exists today because back in the 1930s May began collecting pioneer stories, photos, artifacts, newspaper articles,
organization records & company documents with the dream of one day having a museum on Cortes. She followed through -- May & her husband Elmer were instrumental in having the old Manson's Dock store building moved to a corner of Firehall property in 1996 to become today's growing Museum. The May Ellingsen Archives honours the amazing foresight of this special relative of Mike Manson. Her early vision has left a lasting heritage for Cortes Island.
The Museum thanks you, May.
The Directors of the Museum send condolences to all of the Ellingsen family.
