CIMAS
REPORT FOR THE FISCAL YEAR OF 2009
For the past few years the Cortes Island Museum and Archives has been providing information and directions to tourists in an unofficial capacity. This year official Tourist/Visitor Information Booth status was received.
The Museum’s Archives collection has been increased this year, thanks to the hard work of the Archives Committee. This greatly facilitated the numerous researchers who visited in person or e-mailed the Archives looking for information about particular homesteading families or individuals who have lived on Cortes. One author from England spent two weeks researching the political history of Cortes for a novel set on Cortes that she is writing. The Archives now has a wealth of information to draw upon to answer such requests.
Funding in 2009 became a challenge when the Gaming Grant Program to the Arts & Culture Sector was suspended by the Provincial Government. This meant the CIMAS Application for Direct Funding was declined – a decrease of expected income of approximately $7000 (the amount received in previous years).
